At Mount Carmel College, we strongly support our policies and procedures which assist us to provide a safe and positive learning environment for all students, staff and parents/caregivers.

Our policies and procedures accommodate the needs and aspirations of our College community and Core Values, and full cooperation from students, staff and parents/caregivers is expected.

Safety and Respect

All students and school staff have a right to work in a safe and violence-free workplace.

It is unacceptable in any situation where a member of the school community (student, teacher, staff member, parent or visitor) is intimidated, bullied, abused, threatened or assaulted; or their property is deliberately damaged by another member of that community or the public in circumstances arising out of their activities in the school.

Student Behaviour

From time to time in our community, issues may arise between students and/or between students and staff. Our approach at Mount Carmel College is to use a restorative justice approach to resolve such issues as they arise.

This Restorative Justice approach works hand-in-hand with our Student Personal Responsibility, Anti-Bullying, Anti-Harassment, Anti-Violence and Anti-Sexual Harassment Policies. Consequences for a breach of expected behaviours are detailed in the policies.

Parent or Visitor Behaviour

All parents and visitors to the College are required to conduct themselves in a lawful, ethical, safe and responsible manner that recognises and respects the rights of others. Consequences for a breach of these expected behaviours may include police being called, exclusion from the College property and/or a cessation of communication by College staff.

Staff Behaviour

Staff have expected behaviour detailed in a number of documents including the Enterprise Agreement, Code of Conduct and Staff Handbook. Consequences for a breach of expected behaviours are detailed in these documents.

Lodging a Complaint

All community members should refer to the documents: Complaint Response and Resolution: Policy and Complaint Response and Resolution: Procedure documents.

Support for Staff and Students

Students or staff who feel they have been bullied, harassed or assaulted should as soon as practical report the incident as per the procedure document. The College has a range of support available to students and staff, including access to counsellors.
